If you break down on a motorway
Try to exit at the next junction or reach an emergency area. If you must stop, use the hard shoulder or verge, switch on hazards, exit via the passenger side and wait behind the barrier. On a smart motorway with no hard shoulder, if you're stuck in a live lane, keep your seatbelt on and call 999.
